Joseph Occi About

Joseph Occi

Professional Counselor Associate, Oregon  ·  MA, CMHC — George Fox University

I am a licensed therapist associate working with anxiety, depression, decoupling and narcissistic abuse. I see clients across the lifespan, from adolescents to adults sixty-five and older. My approach is direct and genuine. I will not tell you what you wish to hear, but I will always meet you with honesty and calm.

Therapy with me is, above all, a collaboration. Together, we clarify your goals, examine candidly what has and has not worked for you before and formulate a plan that you help create, rather than one simply handed to you. From there, we put that plan into practice and observe the results, refining our course as we go. My role is not to possess all the answers, but to work alongside you as you discover your own.

The Approach

Direct, honest and built around what you actually want.

I work from a combination of Motivational Interviewing and Solution-Focused approaches, which means we begin with where you wish to go rather than where you have been. I ask questions that help you locate your own answers. I do not lecture. I do not hand you a worksheet and send you home.

The work is collaborative. You set the direction. I help you move toward it by making visible the things that have been getting in the way, the patterns, the beliefs, the adaptations that made sense once and are costing you now.

I am direct in the room. If I see something worth naming, I name it. If something does not add up, I will say so. That honesty is offered with care, not judgment, and it is always in service of what you came here for.
